On Sunday, I finally made a trip to walk the main street of Harriman. Several years ago, I noticed the classic buildings. It seems this street could be used for a movie that needs such background material.

This is the third year a trip to Josephine's birthday party meant watching Trever and Grace, her older siblings, play basketball at Munsey United Methodist Church. The first time was not really Josephine's birthday. It was a few days after her birth. So, this trip was at the time she turned 2.

This is the third trip to Johnson City for Josephine. For the first, Christie kept her older siblings, Trever and Grace, while their parents were busy at the hospital and just getting home. I joined them on that Saturday, to watch the older siblings in Upward Basketball at Munsey United Methodist Church. This has become a tradition.

On our first evening on the ground, we drove from the Kalispell, MT airport to Whitefish, then into Glacier National Park along Lake McDonald and McDonald Creek. An interesting waterfall got us out of the car. My best image from the stop was Mark looking very professional as he worked on his shots of the falls.

Our first morning in Montana was rainy. Throughout the trip, people would say things about the rain when they heard where we were for the first couple of days. Although we obviously knew it drizzled, we never seemed to complain among ourselves. We simply protected our equipment and arranged for images we liked under the circumstances.

It was just a waterfall, like many others we saw. The spring and summer snow melt was feeding them. This one was close to the road and several people were stopped there. A guy had a tent and table asking for petition signatures. He got Mark’s, by showing pictures of unintended trapped animals with injuries. I was loading our stuff back in the car at the time.

In June 2001, Christie, Mark and I drove from Denver to Portland, on a road trip that took us through some of the area covered on this 2014 trip. From that trip, I have remembered sculptures of three Indians at an intersection on the prairie. The metal parts seemed to have originated as automobile parts. In my mind, they have always been majestic and I regretted that they seemed too far out of our way this year. These are less dramatic than my memory of those. They are still intriguing. It seems they may be near the borders of the Blackfoot Indian Reservation.

So, I wanted to drive out of the mountains onto the prairie to an open expanse of Montana. Instead of the shorter route from East Glacier to St. Mary, we passed a couple of pretty nice looking diners, for lunch in Browning. The town wasn’t as inviting as I remembered from the buffalo burgers we had there in 2001. On a street off the highway, to see a neighborhood, we came across Little Flower Parish Church. Lunch was at a large casino. I now think we could have done better in one of the diner near East Glacier and the shorter route to St. Mary.

We stopped to enjoy the mountain views. These flowers enticed me to lay on the ground, so I could get down with them. When Mark walked by, he pointed out that my legs were beside cow droppings. I hope I don’t walk off a cliff someday during an attempt to get the image I want.

As we approached the Many Glaciers Hotel and the lake there, Mark and I stopped for another beautiful scene. Again, I was attracted to the wildflowers as I walked around the hillside off the road.

On the Many Glaciers Road, we came across “moose jam.” The road was full, with most people out of their cars. Trees and brush blocked good views of the moose. I realized I could walk the road and into the field a good distance from the moose. With a long lens, I could get my shots. Eventually, I was joined by several people, including Mark. One approached closer to the moose than he should. Instead of threatening, the moose laid down.

A dramatic church on a hill often gets my attention. This one did. We stopped for a few shots.

Chief Mountain Foreground
I remembered Chief Mountain from the 2001 trip through this area and looked forward to seeing it again. In my memory, it was dramatic. The formation was “socked in” with clouds when we first saw where it was. We waited a good while at the first opportunity to stop. Behind the mountain from us, the sky seemed relatively clear. The wind seemed to be blowing the clouds away. In a while, I realized that the wind parting around the mountain was probably causing the clouds on our side. We moved on. After a few miles, we found a viewing area that gave me this image.

As we came into Waterton, Alberta, we were exited to find a brown bear in the lawn of a home. Mark tried for a few shots from the nearby business’ the parking area. We looked for another perspective on the road to Cameron Lake and could not see the bear. Low and behold, there were three mountain sheep beside that road. I think this was the closest I have ever been to these beautiful animals. The evening light was just right and they hung around for us. We were in the right place.

Walking from our hotel to breakfast, I got involved in finding a place to photograph the Prince of Wales Hotel, overlooking the town. Mark and I got separated for a while. The pictures of the hotel were not very satisfying. I did get two centerline shots. One was Waterton Avenue, near the place we were to eat. The other was a walking trail along the lake. When Mark and I found each other, a dud was giving him a line of bull about his personal life adventures. The couple I heard were highly improbable. It was funny. We were ready for breakfast.

On our way to Cameron Lake, this guy was by the road, pretty much unconcerned about the people who had stopped to see him, while he munched on vegetation. Like a rooky, I started snapping away from the car window with a 70-300mm lens set at 155mm. The histogram was perfect and the color looked great on the LCD. I didn’t notice that I was getting shutter speeds around 1/45th of a second, when I needed something more like 1/250th or faster. Of 20 images, this is the only one that didn’t have unacceptable motion blur. The camera could have handled faster shutter speeds if I had been paying attention. I should be thankful for this.

When we arrived at Cameron Lake, there was a friendly family from Hong Kong, who asked us if we had seen the bear. It looked like older parents and three daughters about the age of this woman. They were excited about the bear and Canada. When we were looking around, they were taking pictures of each other, with the dock, lake and mountains. I asked if I could take this one. She agreed. Later, I gave them my email address. As of July 6, I have not received a message.

This lady did most of the talking for the family from Hong Kong. The lady who appeared to be her mother tried to talk with Mark. He said there was very little English in the things she said. The woman pictured here was very interested in what we were doing and telling us about their trip. It just felt good to carry on the conversation with these warm and friendly people.

Despite the ice on the lake and no one renting the boats, there were a couple of men washing one of them on the shore just out of this scene. A few people came and left while we were there. It was pretty cool and drizzly. Nevertheless, it was an attractive scene. I suspect the busy tourist season is a little later than we were there.

Before breakfast on the morning of this image, I walked the streets of “downtown” Waterton, AB, trying to find a perspective I liked for the Prince of Wales Hotel. It was disappointing. Later, coming back into town from Cameron Lake, we rounded a curve that put us essentially at the same elevation as the hotel. Granted, it may have been better if I was there with sunset light on this west face, but you take what you can get.

Since the Prince of Wales Hotel was such a sticking feature of the Waterton area, we finally drove up the hill to it. I am glad we did. The view from this lawn was beautiful. I remember being in the lobby and gift shop with Christie, when we were there in 2002.

Waterton is really a pretty small town that sets on some flat land beside Upper Waterton Lake. The businesses and homes are at the right side of this image. From this perspective, the view probably has not changed a lot since the early 1900s, when the hotel was build. I suspect the glaciers on the mountains are smaller.

When I saw the sign for Red Rock Canyon, I remembered places like Nevada’s Valley of Fire and Sedona, Arizona’s Red Rock State Park. It turns out that the Waterton Park Red Rock Canyon is more like a single slot canyon. The area is beautiful, with a loop trail around the interesting part of the canyon, with bridges at both ends. The image here is into the narrow part of the canyon. Sometime between leaving Cameron Lake (or around the time we were at Prince of Wales Hotel) the drizzly rain essentially stopped. Clouds were less dense when we were at Red Rock Canyon. It is interesting that many people throughout the trip reacted with concerns that rain they heard about had harmed our Waterton experience. Except for a few occasions, we had hardly changed what we were doing because of the rain. Our pictures just captured what we experienced, including the textured cloudy skies. I didn’t detect that the rain weakened our experience. All the while, our conversation carried on.

At the lower end of Red Rock Canyon, it opens into a wide gorge of smooth red stone, streaked with white layers.

While we were on the bridge, enjoying the scene, a couple of boys came into the canyon with an interest in the water. A few minutes later, their father was on the bridge. It was obvious he enjoyed watching them. He was having his Father’s day in Waterton as well. I talked with him a few minutes. As I understood, they have homes in Montana and east of Waterton somewhere.

It was about 5 PM on a Sunday afternoon when we cursed into Longview Alberta – Father’s Day. The overcast was still coming and going. Longview is a combination of ranch country and oil wells. The prairie around us was beautifully green. There was a huge oil pumping rig working where we entered town – probably the largest if have scene. A couple of the more interesting buildings were the hotel and Jerky Shop, which appeared to be the local bar/dancehall. We stopped at an Esso station to use the restroom and buy an ice cream snack, which prompted a minor encounter with local people. As we went to our car, what appeared to be a local was at the pumps in a very expensive sports car. As I write this, I think it was a Lamborghini or Ferrari, but I can’t say for sure.

Headed west on Highway PR 541 along the Highwood River, a picnic area looked like a good place for closer views of the river. It turned out that the river was pretty dull, but I got interested in the prairie dogs. A few shots and we were on our way.

A while after we left the prairie dogs and headed north on Highway 40, still following the Highwood River, we found a place where the highway had been completely washed out. A minor detour through the rubble was interesting. We probably spent thirty minutes exploring the mess. Later, when we were in Calgary, we learned that there had been exceptional flooding in the region a couple of years earlier.

On Sunday, we made it to Canmore, AB, where we were to stay two nights at a Holiday Inn. Before the trip, I had thought a drive into Calgary may be interesting - to get a sense for the city. Mark didn’t show interest in the city and I didn’t press the idea. Monday morning, we decided to drive back through the grand views along Highway 40. There was no specific plan for the entire day, which leaves opportunity for discovery. Our first stop was a little park on the Kananaskie River. It seemed to sometimes have kayak competitions. On this day, there were a couple of guys practicing their skills. A woman on the shore thought they would be thrilled with the attention we were giving them. Most of my time there was spent making video clips.

One of the interesting things in the Kananaskis River Park was a classic pump design. Mark had not seen one. I could remember them at both my Lewis and Parkey grandparents’ homes. I talked about remembering the flavor of water from those wells, particularly Grandmother Lewis’ well. I also told Mark of a cowboy song from my youth, about leaving a jar of water for the next person to “prime the pump.” The ballad illustrated the ethics in helping an unknown next person at the well and the courage it would take to pour the water into the pump instead of drinking it. The well could be dry, in which case priming the pump would waste the little water there was there. But, if it worked, there would be enough water to fill everything the cowboy had for carrying it. This gal seemed undisturbed by us. A ranger came by. He suggested we shouldn’t stay too long. They sometimes bolt into traffic. A few days later, we actually saw one bolt. It didn’t get hit. There was no traffic at that time. This one never moved from the pond while we were there.

Exploring west of Highway 40 for a good while, making more or less random turns on dirt roads, we came to a manmade damn and lake. This water level was low, although several lakes we passed were more or less full. This one got enough of our attention to roam around the area for a good long while. Maybe the guy fishing on the shore was the key for this stop. Maybe it was a feeling that the road didn’t go much higher into the mountains. Who know? It was just a good stop.

Leaving our car, to explore the area around this lake, two woman came toward us, running across the dam. They made a nice scene of fellowship.

These stumps were interesting. Apparently, the lake water contains minerals that coat their surfaces. I assume it is the same thing that gives these lakes of glacier runoff their aqua color.

This couple came through. Their packs imply they may have been on a fairly long hike. When they offered to stop for my shooting, I explained I was waiting on for them to accent the picture. They were cheerful about the idea.

From the peninsula running into the lake, and closer to the surface, the image is very different. Of course, the sky changed considerably also. I am glad the couple of claps of thunder as we were getting out of the car were the last we heard. If that had continued, we would not have made it to this view.

Hi David,This is Becky writing from China. We met on the other day at the lake, my husband and I were wearing blue jackets. We just came back home from the holiday in Canada. We really had a good time there.Like what I said on that day, it would be greatful if you could send me some pictures you took with us in. We will only keep it as personal pictures. Thank you very much and looking forward to your reply. Thanks.Best Regards,Becky

We really had a good time there.Like what I said on that day, it would be greatful if you could send me some pictures you took with us in. We will only keep it as personal pictures. Thank you very much and looking forward to your reply. Thanks.Best Regards,Becky

So, when was the last time you saw a pay phone? This one stood out here in the mountains, far from any buildings. The damn was here, which apparently had electric power, to operate the gates. Otherwise this was just a beautiful wilderness. There weren’t even any of those Park Service toilets we see so often in U.S. National Parks. And, there was another interesting feature. A pile of Canadian quarters was on top of the phone box. (http://www.songlyrics.com/the-kingston-trio/desert-pete-lyrics/) It appeared to be like the jar of water for priming the pump Mark and I discussed by the Kananaskis River earlier in the day. See http://bit.ly/1nQViS6.

We turned onto Spray Valley Road and figured out that it could eventually take us back to Canmore. Soon, we discovered this Common Loon on a lake near the road. He performed for me. Although the road was unpaved gravel, it was smooth and appeared to be a very comfortable drive. We continued.

Every adventure needs a mishap. We were gone from home 8 days, carrying a lot of photographic equipment and other stuff. To my knowledge, this tire was the only thing we lost. When it happened, I was in denial until we got stopped and Mark said “No, it is flat.” The torn place was at least an inch long. Otherwise, I was in luck, with a thirty year old guy thrilled to set up a GoPro camera to record the entire operation. It’s not joke. He had the tripod set up in just the right place, before we started figuring out how to get the temporary tire and jack out of the curious storage places. His camera rigging took about the same amount of thought as getting ready to jack the car. Then I was able to enjoy the wilderness beauty while he became the star of his movie.

A short while after getting back underway from the flat tire, this peak caught my attention. I don’t know exactly what it was. It just looked interesting, with the clouds covering so much of it. And the trees seemed to add something, now that I look at it again. There were three shots – one much wider than this, this one and one of just the peak and cloud. This one seems to have the right balance between a lot of information and clean lines.

Moose Jam – This Irish family discovered a moose cow and calf in the woods. They were pretty excited, particularly the older lady. Like many people we met on this trip, these people were warm and friendly in conversation. I learned that the older couple was visiting their son and daughter-in-law, who had immigrated to Regina, SK, Canada. When we were preparing to leave the scene, a lens cap was missing. These strangers spent maybe 20 minutes helping us search the area for it, before we all went on our separate ways. A few miles down the road, Mark discovered the cap was in plain view on top of the dashboard. We had searched the nooks and crannies of the car otherwise before we got in to a search of the road way.

When we got to the hotel after the flat, I spent some phone time with Hertz talking about the flat tire. The news I got that evening was that we could go to the Hertz place in Banff to swap vehicles, if they had a “U.S. car” we could leave at Kalispell. The Hertz place in Banff was closed. Arrangements would be made the next morning. When I called back, I found that there was not a U.S. car and the Hertz franchise in Kalispell would not arrange for a new tire. I had not bought the coverage. It turns out; the tire size was nowhere to be found in Canmore or Banff. That was maybe six calls. Finally, we found the tire at a dealer in Calgary – an hour away. I had thought I might want to see Calgary, but we had decided there were better things to do. So, now we would see it. We found the place after first going to another franchise of the same brand. This guy was funny, but he expected the wait to be about 4 hours. It was about noon. He suggested good “pub food” at Original Joe’s. It was a very interesting experience – maybe Scottish or Irish food. The recommended beer was excellent and the pub atmosphere was fun. I took pub pictures to remember. We walked through the nearby mall, I bought a lens pen and the call came that the car was ready about an hour sooner than expected. Now it was around 3 PM and we had a four hour drive to Jasper in front of us. That flat tire changed our plans for a whole day, not to mention about $300 Canadian (More like $285 U.S.). We drove though some beautiful scenery without stopping much and had a good dinner in Jasper. Oh yes, there was also the speeding ticket on the Trans Canadian Highway. After that, we figured out how to program the car for metric information on the dash.

After a day that was mostly getting the flat tire replaced, a pub lunch and our hurried trip north on Icefield Parkway (June 17), we were ready to head south on the route that inspired Jasper, Alberta for this Father’s Day adventure. Highway 93 runs from Jasper to the Mexican border, through a vast array of landscapes. This year, we made it from Jasper to Kalispell. In 2015, we currently expect another lag of the trip. At the rate we travel, it may take three to four years to see all of Highway 93, if we actually make it. Until this point, the 2014 trip was an interesting way to reach our starting point. The reasons have to do with airline schedules and my interest in seeing this route to Jasper. We began southbound on Icefield Parkway, with time for stops. Soon, we took a turn for a closer view of the Athabasca River, where we met five or six motorcycles with sidecars. Our reaction was wishing for a chance to shoot pictures. When this road turned away from the river we returned to a picnic area on the river. The motorcycles were there. It turns out they were not some kind of club, as we imagined. They were a Jasper tourist attraction. Guys in their 40s or 50s drove, carrying two tourists each – aging couples in this case. They were resting, before their return to Jasper on the road that might have been the “old highway” into Jasper. We talked long enough to get a sense for their “mission.” That ride was probably expensive. When they were climbing into and onto the machines, we headed to setup for their departure. We got our chance for the shots we wanted earlier.

Our next turn off Icefield Parkway was at a lodge, restaurant and gift shop at Sunwapta Falls. A tremendous amount of water was flowing through a 30 wide “crack” in a rock formation. The drop is sixty feet, in the form of an upper fall and a lower fall, with the stream soon flowing into the Athabasca River. Both cascades are spectacular from good waking trails and a bridge over the upper falls. We walked the area for pictures and video from several perspectives. Then, we had lunch.

All along the Icefield Parkway, there are overlooks to enjoy the scenery. This is one where we stopped for a while. Beyond the peaks is a vast ice field that covers many square miles. I felt this image was simply worth editing, even though I have little information about the specific location.

All along the Icefield Parkway, there are overlooks to enjoy the scenery. This is one where we stopped for a while. There were a few similar signs, pointing to peaks. This one pointed to a long series of peaks that looked like extremely large slabs stacked on each other with their square corners pointed to the sky. The raven, however, made this sign the best choice for an image. If I had taken pictures of other signs I may have been able to write more about this stop.

This image was captured because it appears to have an ice wall or face for the Columbia Ice Field, beyond these peaks.

Throughout the trip, we saw many waterfalls. In this case I don’t know the name, but like it.

At the Columbia Icefield Discovery Centre, there are apparently some kind of vehicle tours that go onto the ice field. We elected to take the dirt road to a parking lot by Sunwapta Lake and the hiking trail to a close viewing area for Athabasca Glacier. It was a pretty good, rough climb onto the moraine left by the glacier as it has retreated toward for some time. We loaded ourselves with considerable equipment. When I reached the crest of the moraine, parking area, lake and mountains had an impressive scale, as I have attempted to capture in this image.

Approaching the glacier, a father and son passed the 1992 marker for the edge, eager to see it. Their silhouette created an interesting view. There were several similar markers along the trail, beginning near the parking lot. As I remember, they were all after the mid-1900s.

The glacier is huge and the few people closer to it provide some sense of the size. In this area, I found a rock with sparkly gold colored points and imagine it might be threads of gold. Unfortunately, it turned out to be iron pyrite – fool’s gold. I still have it though. Maybe I should take it back.

Athabasca Glacier
Leaving the Athabasca Glacier area, we realized we were approaching an overlook we had passed without time to stop the day before. This time, we approached it through a pass in Parker Ridge, instead of climbing a series of curves. This elevation is dramatically above the highway below. It is one of the more dramatic views of the trip. Mark started the GoPro running in the pass, such that there should be a video reveal of this scene coming into view. The GoPro was attached to the windshield often during the trip.

The Icefield Parkway hugs the shore of Waterfowl Lake. The water color was beautiful, with greenery and mountains to make a wonderful stop. It was 6:45 PM and we had a long way to go for our night south of Radium Hot Springs, but this was worth a little time.

The Icefield Parkway hugs the shore of Bow Lake, along with Waterfowl Lake and several others in Banff National Park. Bow Lake still had quite a lot of ice on June 18. By this time, it was 7:10 PM and Radium Hot Springs was not much closer than it was from Waterfowl Lake. After passing a couple of lakes since Waterfowl Lake, we didn’t feel we could pass this one.

Back in the car, after a few shots at the Bow Lake overlook, Mark said “the Norwegian Polar is in the water down there” - pointing toward a beach area. We needed to see more. It was five or six guys. The language they used most seemed to be something like German. A couple of them could communicate with us in English. And, they were stripped to their undershorts – boxers or otherwise. Apparently, they had all been into the water. Two were still playing with the ice. Others were taking pictures and said it was alright for us to shoot. There was a neatly folded and piled set of cloths near me - except the underwear.

It was getting late. Although we left Jasper, AB relatively early, we had stopped a lot. Radium Hot Springs, BC was still some distance from our next hotel in Invermere, BC. Mark looked over his shoulder and became certain we should turn around for a series of sunset shots. I am very glade he didn't let us pass this.

We arrived in Invermere about 11 PM the night before these osprey images, without stopping for dinner. It was a great day. Parking for the hotel was on the street. The restaurant in front of our parking space appeared open. Mark went to check and reported we could still get food as I headed to check in. It turned out to be “bar food,” with just a few people remaining. The oversize appetizers were welcome and good. Mark was talking with a woman who had been riding horses with a friend that day. When our food came, she said it was time for her to go home. I noticed and said “we’re the only guys in here.” They all giggled, including the bartender. Before we finished eating a guy came from the back. It seemed he must have been the chef and/or maybe the owner. He was from somewhere in the Middle East. The conversation was interesting. He had no idea Highway 93 that ran near his town runs from Jasper to the Mexican border. On the subject of photography, he wanted to make sure we saw the osprey around Windermere Lake. From his perspective, there were many of them and we imagined a wilderness park of some kind. The next morning we found two osprey and houses all along the lakeshore, except for a small park with picnic tables and playground equipment. Several miles down the road we began wondering whether we had stumbled into a gay bar on “girl’s night” – probably not. The speculation was fun.

From the description of Highway 93, I knew the scenery wouldn’t be as dramatic as it had been before Radium Hot Springs and Invermere. My vision was that we would cross the border into the U.S., for less expensive gas that Canada. I didn’t shoot much as we drove and talked. When we got to Kalispell, there should be time for the National Park near the town of West Glacier. Somehow, we took Highway 3 instead of 93. Thinking back on it, Highway 3 had more interesting scenery than 93 did on this day’s part. When a sign indicated we were about to enter Alberta, instead of the U.S., it was time to check a phone app for our location. It was an hour back to 93 and no reasonable shortcuts. The two additional hours meant we would buy more gas in Canada, where a tankful had cost about $85 Canadian each time. In Fernie, we got $20 worth and hoped it would get us to Eureka, Montana. The hamburger in a nifty place on this street made the side trip more bearable. Actually, Fernie is a pretty nice town, The Brick House.

Eureka is a prairie town. We felt like we had two long days and were ready for our hotel, where our stuff would be organized for our trip home. The trip was great. For many of these trips I have felt the most recent adventure was the best yet. This one was no different. It was a day or two longer than others. The scenery and conversations were spectacular. When someone asked which was the best Father’s Day Trip, I hope I can generally remember to say “the next one.”

Christie and I picked up Trever and Grace for a weekend with us, on the moring of July 11. From there we took I-26 and I-40 to Waynesville, NC, where we ate. Then it was Maggie Valley, Blue Ridge Parkway and Great Smokey Mountain National Park . In the park we stopped at overlooks, Clingmans Dome and The Sinks. Dinner was in Townsend.

YES, it was worth a 6 hour round trip to Jonesborough to see Raven’s graduation routine. This was her second year to learn from a week of horse camp and she is becoming quite accomplished. And, she is showing real command of the skills to work with the horse. I am impressed, as well as being surprised I had the energy to make the trip. Christie Lewis, Danielle Dixon and Coit Dixon thank you for bringing this wonderful girl into my life.

And, she is showing real command of the skills to work with the horse. I am impressed, as well as being surprised I had the energy to make the trip. I had not been to Ball River Falls for some time. With Christie out of town, I decided to drive down to see it after church and lunch. All these images were made from the bridge, without moving the tripod. It looks like I should probably refine the accuracy of the GPS logs.

Trever and Grace's brother, Knox, was born the day before these images. Christie spent the night with them, including Josephine. I drove to see Knox and took the two older kids to Buffalo Mountain for a little exploration. I took a few pictures, including mushrooms and a fire ring someone left.

This image has to do with teaching the kids about white balance. I shot two in the same place. One was set for sun. This one was set for shade. We compared the images on the back of the camera. I think they got it. This one was corrected for shade in Lightroom.

It was a Labor Day outing with Christie. We drove down to see the falls and extened the trip to the first overlook that reveals the broad Tennessee River Valley, with the Indian Boundry Lake to the far right.

Jim Powell was Raven and Sophia Dixon’s great grandfather. The pictures were taken at Sophia’s forth birthday party on September 5, 2014. He died on September 23. Sonia asked that I take a picture of her and here dad. In the series I got a pretty good portrait of Sonia as well. Mr. Powell asked that I take pictures of Nick with him. I am glad I did and hope Nick knows the reason for his picture when he is old enough to appreciate it. An interesting side story is that I took pictures of Mr. Powell’s wife at Sophia’s second birthday party – caught her with an incredible smile that seemed to truly capture her spirit. I know lot of people will miss these impressive people.

It was the day after Halloween, with considerable snow above 2,500 feet elevation. Mt. LeConte had 22 inches. All the Smoky Mountains National Park roads were closed. We went to Townsend anyway. The fall color was great. At Cades Cove Road, it was time to walk for a bit. Before leaving the area, we took a side trip to Wears Valley Methodist.

Saturday Morning, when Coit and his family visited. Raven and I went to the Coytee area of the East Shore, Tellico Lake. I have thought it would be a good trail to explore since I found the trailhead. It turns out that the trail I wanted to take was Sinking Creek instead of Coytee, which goes the other way.
